Caishiling Fm
Type Locality and Naming
It was named as the “Caishiling System” by Cai Kexin and Zhang Wentang in 1955, and was first cited publicly by Zhang Wentang in 1958. The naming section is located at the Caishi Ridge of the southern foothill of Ahati Mts on the northwestern margin of the Chaidamu Basin.
Synonym: (彩石岭组)
Lithology and Thickness
Lower part consists of grey-white and grey-green conglomerates, intercalated with a few purple, yellow-grey and black mudstones. Middle part is largely of dark-purple sandy mudstone and siltstone, intercalated with grey-green siltstone. Upper part is mainly of green fine-grained sandstone, intercalated with a small amount of dark-purple and brown-red mudstones, with a total thickness of 833 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It is in a disconformable contact with the underlying Dameigou Fm
Upper contact
Regionally, the schematic strat column indicates the next younger unit as Hongshuigou Fm
Regional extent
The formation is distributed on the northwestern and northern margins of the Chaidamu Basin. Its lithology is fairly consistent, with only a greatly changeable thickness.

Fossils
It yields Ostracoda: Darwinula sarytirmenensis, D. magna; Chareae: Aclistochara lufengensis, A. nuguishanensis; as well as bivalves and Brachiopods.
